Abu Simbel Temple Tour

November 11, 2021July 13, 2022 Updated onJuly 13, 2022

Sun, Oct 24: Abu Simbel, Egypt

Abu Simbel was a three hour bus ride each way, but worth it. It was relocated piece by piece, further up the hill, complete with a fake mountain back in 1968 to avoid being submerged by a dam. Quite the story for these magnificent temples.

  • Abu Simbel Temple
  • Take a long walk down, then turn the corner
  • Rather large statues carved into the mountain at Abu Simbel
  • Temple at Abu Simbel
  • One of the heads fell down. Rather than fix it when the temple was moved, the fallen head was preserved in the location where it was found.
  • Inside the Abu Simbel Temple, there are more statues
  • And the bosses way in the back room
  • The larger Abu Simbel Temple
  • There’s a smaller temple to the side.
These people are obviously less important since they have to stand.
  • It’s smaller on the inside too.
  • Both temples in one shot
  • It’s a long bus ride to get to Abu Simbel, but thankfully there’s a rest stop along the way, Sarab, A Desert Mirage.
  • cats at the Sarab cafe
    Sarab, the original cat cafe
  • Cats!
  • And more cats!
